I'm Joe Swaney, joined as always by Vincent Caldoni.

And we've got another fascinating story for you this week.

This one is known as the Logue case.

I call it murder at Meeting Street.

So let's get going with our story.

Yeah, this one is bonkers.

It's a weird little story.

And if not for certain national events, it would have gotten more national attention,

even though it did get some. A little bit, yeah. Yeah, but we'll talk about that. So, here we go.

On January 15th, 1943, three people were executed in the electric chair and the state penitentiary

in Columbia, South Carolina. One of them, Sue Logue, was the first woman ever executed by electricity in South Carolina.

Her brother-in-law, George Logue, and a guy named Clarence Bagwell, were also put to death in the chair on that same day.

Those executions were the culmination of a chain of events that had begun two plus years before with a fairly trivial farm incident.

And by the time all was said and done, eight people were dead.

So first off, if you want to know where this happened, it was in Edgefield, South Carolina,

in a place called Meeting Street, which isn't quite a town.

Kind of a crossroads.

Yeah, it's, it's, yeah.

It's about 10 miles north of the town of Edgefield and about 100 miles southwest of Charlotte.

It's right there at the intersection of Highway 378 and Highway 430.
