What’s the weirdest situation you’ve listened to Radio X in?
Chris was off this week so Toby stepped into the breakfast shoes and had just about the silliest show you can imagine. We were also blessed with some awesome guests this week, gave away lots of tickets to upcoming gigs and became privy to Toby’s terrifyingly accurate clairvoyance skills.
The first guest we had this week was the incredibly talented Vicky McClure. She came into the studio to chat about the new season of Trigger Point. She spoke to Toby and the team about the unique experience of working with real-world bomb diffusers on set as they aim to make the show as close to reality as possible. What she didn’t expect coming into the studio this week however, was to be playing a game that involved delivering electric shocks to producer John.
Next, Russell Tovey popped into the studio to talk about his new book: Art School (in a book): A future artist's guide to contemporary Art. He spoke about the inaccessibility of the art world for an outsider and how intimidating it can be. He also said that art is for everyone and that his new book is a way of helping young people bridge this gap. Oh and he also chatted about silly things too like how insane it was voicing Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents.
Finally we had the legendary Mumford & Sons in the studio chatting to Toby about a host of topics, ranging from their latest single featuring Hozier, to being onstage with Springsteen. They also spoke about other artists they dream of collaborating with, such as Stevie Nicks and Adele.
That’s all for this week, but we have these to offer you before we go:
Enjoy!

But I just think, you know, the way that these contracts work, you sign the contract, that's it now. And I just think sometimes I finish my show at 1 o'clock. And obviously, unlike you and Chris and stuff, you know, you've got the whole team. Yes. You sort of decompress. Exactly that. Yeah. As a team. Yeah. I just sort of wander down into the Radio X office. Slump in a chair. Slump in a chair. Like a boxer who's just on 12 rounds I go got away with another one This is not getting easier Do you know what I've worked out right Because often people in the street Who listen to radio Stop me and ask how I've still got a job Right That's lovely to hear isn't it Well I've worked it out right Whenever I go down to the office Our boss Devo is never at his seat No Because I've worked it out, right? Whenever I go down to the office, |
| 1:45.3 | our boss Devo is never at his seat. No. Because I've worked out, 10 till 1 when I'm on is prime meeting time. Yes. So I've worked out, he's just always in meetings. Yeah, he's never heard of the show. I think that's the only way I can explain it. Absolutely. is that he genuinely has never heard the show. |
| 1:46.8 | I don't know if he knows who I am. |
| 2:17.8 | I've got no idea. I dread the day. You know, his secretary goes, I've cleared your meetings, seen 10 and 1 today. I thought it'd be good for you to listen to Toby's show. Yeah. And he goes, has he been doing this the whole time? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. But this is terrible. What's he doing this for? I remember once, we got our listening figures through a couple years ago. And I'd had a really good book. I'd smashed it. And I think about five minutes after being told this news, I did genuinely one of the worst links ever where I lost the song that was wanted to play |

| 3:08.1 | And I said to him, you can't rest on all the lines. True. I said to him, I said, the problem is, this is the stuff that sticks. Yeah. This seems to be the stuff that lands. This is it. I always think it's, I'm a bit like Homer Simpson in the nuclear power plant. Yeah. I think part of Homer Simpson, you know, endearing qualities is that he's such a buffoon. Yes. That when you watch him, it makes you feel better about your life. Absolutely right. Yes, you're a barometer, aren't you essentially? I am. You got, God had a bad work at day today. Bad day of work today. But did you hear Toby? Yeah. he had a shock. And I'm happy to do that for people. That's nice. It's generous. |
