I'm Sherman, I'm an alcoholic.

My sobriety date is October 3rd, 2003, I have a sponsor, I don't have a sponsor right

now, but I do service, never try and never to say no to AHA because when I got here

didn't say no to me and what happened was I don't believe I was born alcoholic, I hear

that a lot.

I think you're just born alcoholic and I don't know, I just think it's a circumstances

people are putting sometimes, at least this was my situation, you know, my family and

friends used to drink a lot, so I thought it was a social norm, you know, my neighbors

just sell a lot of drugs, there was a lot of stuff going on in my community, you know,

I had a lot of bad role models.

So that's what I thought was normal, that's what I was supposed to do, you know, school

would tell me say no to drugs, right?

And I was raised Catholic, so I was afraid to go to hell and I just wanted to fit in,

you know, I just wanted to be a part of, you know, I felt like I was not good looking,

now I didn't have girlfriends, I wasn't good at sports, I wasn't good at dancing.

But when I started to use drugs and alcohol, I felt a part of it, I felt like I could do

all that, you know, I can, it was my social lubricant, you know, and I wasn't very good
