Welcome to another episode of Apostolic Life in the 21st Century.

Today is the day that here in the United States we celebrate the birthday, the life,

and the legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

And Dr. David K. Bernard is with us today,

and we're going to talk about Dr. King's legacy specifically as it pertains to the Apostolic Church.

Dr. Bernard, I know this is a topic that we've addressed on previous MLK Day celebrations,

and I know this is a topic that's near and dear to your heart.

I'm going to start by asking you about, as General Superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church, I know that one of your priorities is working hard to make sure that

the UPCI, there is a seat at the table for every race, every ethnicity.

I'd like you just to remind us again why this is so important,

because our world is so polarized right now.

A lot of times along this idea of race and ethnicity,

why is this such a focus for you in your ministry?

It's important because everyone is important to Jesus Christ.

So let me be clear. We're trying to be biblically correct. We're trying to reach everyone with the

gospel of Jesus Christ. We want everyone to belong to the church. So in our polarized culture,

sometimes terms such as diversity or inclusion are being used or being twisted.

So we're not talking about a political agenda. We're not talking about political correctness.

We're not talking about the ideology of multiculturalism, meaning all cultures are equal. There should be no common culture, et cetera, et cetera.

So I don't want to get off on those political tangents, but we do believe in multicultural ministry,

which means reaching people in and from every culture. I think that's biblical. Now, why do I think

it's biblical?
