residence with attempted kidnapping and assault. The Justice Department says that law enforcement

found a role of tape, rope, and zip ties at the crime scene along with a hammer. And officials

have concluded that the intruder was planning to kidnap and to injure the Speaker of the House.

Additionally, we learned from court documents that the assailant told police that his goal

in breaking into the Pelosi residence was to question Speaker Pelosi, saying that if she

lied to him, he would break her kneecaps. The intruder told police that breaking Pelosi's kneecaps

would send a message to other members of Congress that their actions

had consequences. A source tells NBC News that Paul Pelosi is still in the ICU, and we've also

heard from a source that he was able to give his version of events to investigators yesterday.

federal domestic security agencies issued a bulletin warning of an elevated threat of violence
