Investigators in Colorado have offered few concrete details about the suspect in this weekend's LGBTQ bar shooting, including the charges he'll face or his motive for the attack.

But we are getting a clearer picture into the harrowing moments before, during, and after the gunman opened fire inside Club Q.

And how this horrific tragedy could have potentially been significantly more deadly,

if not for the actions of a decorated army vet named Richard Fierro.

He was in the club celebrating a birthday with his wife, his daughter, and her friends.

When the gunman opened fire, he spoke to reporters outside his home about what happened next.

Guy came in shooting, man. He came in shooting.

He was shooting. I don't know what the hell he was shooting at.

I grabbed him by the back of his little cheap-ass armor thing and I pulled him down. The young man that was that was late, he was hiding there, had jumped up with me. I don't know if he helped pull me, pull him down or not. I have no idea. And then I started wailing on this dude. And I'm on top of him. I'm a big dude, man. And this guy was bigger. And I just kept wailing on him. One of the performers walked by or was running by. And I told her, kick this guy, kick this guy. And she took her high heel and stuffed it in his face or his head or whatever she could hit.

Colorado Springs mayor has called Fierro's actions heroic.

Fierro humbly described himself as just a dude trying to help his community.
