1:12.8	Early this morning, the Wall Street Journal reported that the United States has planned to deploy an additional 100 to 200 troops to Taiwan.
1:17.1	It's a sharp increase from the roughly 30 troops on the island just a year ago.
1:19.4	These are military trainers, folks, for what it's worth.
1:23.4	NBC News has not been able to confirm the specifics of the Wall Street Journal story,
1:27.0	but the Pentagon is not denying it or waving reporters off.
1:30.3	And a DOD spokesperson does tell NBC News this.
1:34.2	We don't have a comment on specific operations, engagements, or training.
1:39.6	But I would highlight that our support for and defensive relationship with Taiwan remains aligned against the current threat posed by the People's Republic of China.
1:43.5	Our commitment to Taiwan is rock solid and contributes to the maintenance of peace and stability
1:49.4	across the Taiwan Strait and within the region.
