Where at this hour, Speaker McCarthy and President Biden are meeting at the White House for the first time since Republicans took the majority in the House.

There are a lot of important issues that should be on the table at this meeting.

What this meeting should be about.

Immigration, where according to our latest NBC News poll, it's the issue Americans want this new

Congress to take up. The number one priority is this issue. But it is the issue of the debt ceiling

in this manufactured crisis that is expected to dominate the conversation in the Oval Office.

And it's what's dominated the barbs being traded in the lead

up to this meeting. Here's Speaker McCarthy this afternoon on his way to the White House.

The president could say that if your account would come with a plan, so do you have a plan?

I got a big plan. The first question is if the president wanted to continue reckless spending

or find a way that we could be responsible, sit down, and find common ground where we

put ourselves on a path to budget, make a balanced budget.

Folks, posturing aside, both McCarthy and Biden are coming into this meeting with pretty

weak hands politically to play in different ways.
