alternative investments. What exactly is an alternative investment?

Well, it's an interesting question. The term alternative investment doesn't technically

have a meaning. Different groups use it in different ways. So for instance, traditionally alternative

investments have been used, the term has been used to

define hedge funds on Wall Street. But the term could, really, it depends on the individual.

So if you've invested in CDs your whole life, then you might consider stocks an alternative investment.
