We have now reached the end of day three of the government shutdown with no clear resolution

at this moment in sight.

Now what we do know for sure is that the shutdown won't be resolved this weekend.

Little Mike Johnson announced today that the House won't even be in session next week,

while he leaves it to the Senate to figure things out.

So he kept them out of town this week, and he's keeping them out of town next week, too.

Now, in the Senate, majority leader, John Thune, who actually has the power to negotiate an end to the shutdown,

he has a great deal of power, is continuing to act as if he is a powerless observer.

I mean, yesterday, Thune told reporters he believed that it was unlikely that senators would even be in the capital this weekend.

He went on to say that, quote, we'll give Democrats the weekend to think about it, and then we'll come back and vote on Monday.
