Today, for the first time since this federal investigation began, lawyers for Donald Trump

and prosecutors from Special Counsel Jack Smith's office, they appeared together before

Judge Jaline Cannon in a Florida courtroom.

Now lawyers for Trump argued the trial over his mishandling of classified documents at

Marlago that that trial should be pushed until after the 2024 election.

Several prosecutors, on the other hand, want the trial to start this December.

Now Judge Cannon did not make a decision on all that today and we are going to have much

more on that story coming up.

But even if Judge Cannon decides to delay this trial for these federal charges for these

federal charges, there is a good chance that no matter what, Donald Trump will be standing

trial for at least some federal charges before the end of this year.

And that is because today we learn that Special Counsel Jack Smith has made one of the most

important and consequential decisions to date.

It appears as if he is ready to charge Donald Trump in his attempt to overturn the 2020

election.

Now getting to this point, getting to this decision to pursue Trump for his alleged criminal

behavior is the culmination of an extensive federal investigation, an investigation that

was arguably kicked into high gear thanks to a decision made by Speaker Nancy Pelosi

two years ago.

For this morning, with great solemnity and sadness, I'm announcing that the House will

be establishing a select committee on the January 6th insurrection.
