Hello, pod, I'm Chris Hewitt and welcome to the latest Empire Podcast preview special.

0:20.0

We seem to have fallen into a nice little habit of late of doing these ahead of Mustwatch

0:24.1

TV shows and Miss Marvel certainly falls into that category. It's the latest MCU show to hit

0:31.2

Disney+, which does this Wednesday, June 8th. And like Moonlight before it, it's a show that

0:37.7

introduces a brand new character who's going to be a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

0:44.3

going forward. That character is Kamala Khan, aka Miss Marvel, a young Pakistani American girl who

0:52.0

lives in Jersey City with her family and is suddenly fine to self-embeused with cosmic powers,

0:58.3

which she takes in her stride given that she's a massive fan of the Avengers in general,

sequel, it's all connected. Anyway, I'm seeing the first two episodes and let me tell you, Moonnight

1:22.7

brought us a character in Stephen Grant that you pretty much fell in love with right away,

and they've done it again with Kamala Khan, played by newcomer and massive MCU fan. She could give

1:33.1

us a run for our money, I feel, Iman Falani, who has a poise, a sureteness, confidence and swagger

1:40.9

way beyond her year she pops right off the screen from the start even before she gets her powers,

1:47.4

which have been somewhat controversially tweaked slightly for this show. That's just one of the

1:54.0

things I talked about during the three interviews you're about to hear with the creator team behind

1:58.5

the six episode series, head directors Adelaim Balal, head writer and creator Bishakai Ali,

2:05.0

and producer and actual Kamala Khan co-creator Sana Amanet. Now, this isn't a spoiler special,

2:14.4

it is a preview of Miss Marvel is designed with your appetite for what's to come, but we do talk

2:19.8

about the first two episodes and certain things that happen in those first two episodes. Sometimes

2:25.6

we talk about those things a lot, sometimes we dance around them and talk about them in the abstract.
