0:00.0	Hello, welcome dear morning show. My name is Philip DeFranco, and today we're going to be taking a look at safety concerns, lack of information, and more regarding breast implants.
0:08.4	Many of you might not know, but the first breast implant surgery was performed in Houston in 1962.
0:13.0	And in fact, although the FDA had the authority
0:14.6	to regulate breast implants by 1976,
0:16.7	they remained largely unregulated until the 1990s.
0:19.4	And since then, breast augmentations
0:21.0	have catapulted.
0:22.0	According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons,
0:24.1	as of 2018, they are the most performed cosmetic surgical procedure
0:27.6	in the United States.
0:28.6	But what we've seen in recent months is that the FDA has started to re-examine
0:31.6	the risks associated with implants.
0:33.2	This despite long-standing denials by some doctors and implant manufacturers about any risks.
0:37.4	And more specifically, on March 25th and 26th of this year, the FDA held a two-day safety
0:41.6	hearing about the hidden dangers of breast implants.
0:43.7	This after reports of thousands of women citing concerns that their breast implants
0:46.8	were causing joint pain and fatigue.
0:48.5	These reports also cited links to autoimmune diseases, something known as breast implant
0:52.4	illness, and in some cases as breast implant implant associated lymphoma.
0:55.5	But one of the big issues here is that the FDA didn't just randomly
0:58.1	decide to have these safety discussions.
0:59.9	It took over three years for advocates of breast implant illness
