In the summer of 2020, a listener reached out and asked me how I choose the stories I share on crime beat.

She told me she was trying to seek justice for something that happened to her decades earlier when she was a teenager.

Immediately we began chatting back and forth. And that was the starting point of this episode.

And you know, it's podcasts like yours that I've devoured, you know, for years.

And it's so ironic looking back because I was always really drawn to crime podcasts and how people worked through, you know, so much trauma.

And it was probably only four or five years ago where I really realized like, oh, wow, I have an episode of my own.

You know, it took a really long time to realize, wow, maybe I'm really drawn to these stories because I also have my own story.

Today, on crime beat, the story of one woman's bravery and how it cracked open one of the most high profile sex assault investigations in Calgary's history.

I don't think we've ever seen a case such as this within the city of Calgary. I'm not familiar if there is even another one within our nation of a predator of this sort within our school system.
