This is captured in 2019, the Long Beach Grand Prix, about five blocks away from where the event is held.

With George Mack, the last African-American person to compete in the IndyCar series,

this dates back now 18 years.

2002, George, a rookie with the 310 racing team, had won and only season in IndyCar, gone on

to a life that includes many things, successful businessman, continuing his athletic endeavors.

But I wanted to know about George because his entry into IndyCar

followed one year after my final, my final season working for IndyCar teams

2001 in the Indy Racing League with Sam Schmidt Motorsports.

So he's curious about him, not just because such a rarity as an African-American

race car driver in Indy car, but his story of where he came from and how he got there.

So I'm so thankful to George, who spent about two hours with me at Long Beach.

Boy, did we have some fun of the things that really, really stood out.

We just gotten into the interview.

It just started.

He was mentioning his father and his mother and his upbringing and his father walked into his business, an auto repair shop. And it was the most

amazing coincidence knowing that they don't see each other nearly as often as they would like to.

So Mr. Mack, Mr. Lloyd Mack, came in and sat down and joined in for about an hour or so of the conversation.

So father and son was such a beautiful thing to be able to have them there together.
