Jesus talks about the possibility of Christians being able to move mountains.

Now, unless you misunderstand this and think that you can now go out to Mount Everest and tell it to relocate itself, that is to miss the point of the passage.

He says you will be able to move this mountain.

He's talking about a very specific mountain.

In the Bible, the concept of a mountain was a problem so severe, a difficulty so great, that it transcended normal ordinary means to fix it.

It was a problem that normal methodology would not be able to correct. It was bigger than you.

It was not only bigger than you, it was bigger than anybody you knew.

So, it was a mountain-sized problem. That's the idea of this mountain.

He's not talking about a physical mountain. He's talking about a spiritual mountain.

A situation that you have become victim of that leads to perhaps habitual behavior or attitudes or your ordinary means of solving it doesn't fix it.

Now, this word mountain comes off of a great context because in chapter 17, the disciples have just come from the mount of transfiguration.

They've been on a mountain and they've seen the glory of Jesus Christ.

We've all been on that glorious mountain where God was so close to us that we could reach out and touch Him where the reality of His presence and the reality of His power was so real that you knew you had been in God's presence.
