Hello and welcome to the Story Grid podcast. This is a show dedicated to helping you become a better writer.

0:07.4

I'm your host Tim Graal and I am a struggling writer trying to figure out how to tell a story that works.

0:14.1

Joining me shortly is Sean Coyne. He is the creator of Story Grid, the author of the book Story Grid, and an editor with over 25 years experience.

0:23.2

In this episode, we dive back into my story. We go over the last few scenes that I've written,

0:28.8

and we start talking about the next sequence in the story. And I think that's what's exciting for

0:33.9

me is we're starting to move from looking at individual scenes to looking at sequences

0:39.2

because I think Sean can trust me to write a decent scene now and is allowing me to go a little

0:45.8

deeper. So I'm excited about this episode because we're getting closer and closer to the end

0:51.8

1:28.1

Now, originally, I wrote two scenes that you, you know, had some tweaks too, but they seemed to be

1:35.5

all right.

1:36.9

And then the third scene that kind of wrapped that sequence up, I had flashed forward and

1:43.1

kind of looking back, like, she was safe and then looking back at what happened.

1:47.6

And you're like, no, no, no, you got to keep telling the story in real time and draw out, draw out that suspense.

1:54.2

So I threw out that scene and rewrote it.

1:57.8

So the first two scenes, I basically just tweak some things to fit some of the decisions

2:03.2

we've made. Like, you know, everybody goes out at night. Everybody's in during the day. So I tried
