the exorcism of Emily Rose which is a 2005 supernatural horror legal drama film directed

by Scott Derrickson who co-wrote it with Paul Harris Boardman. The cast includes Laura Linney with a rather brilliant

Tom Wilkinson, who to me seems born to play a Catholic priest. It also stars Jennifer Carpenter,

who does a brilliant turn as the troubled Emily Rose. The film kicks off with a rather turbulent

and disturbing scene where Emily is consumed by a rather nasty demon,

who unfortunately turns out to be Lucifer himself.

Tom Wilkerson's priest, Father Richard Moore, battles somewhat in vain against a very pit of hell,

and unfortunately it not only kills Emily Rose, but also Father Richard's reputation, as he is charged with

negligent homicide. We pick up the rest of the film through the eyes of self-proclaimed agnostic

defence lawyer Erin Bruner, who represents Father Richard Moore. Film is a mix of terrifying

flashback, 3am demon visits,

and a rather compelling courtroom drama

which knocks around some supernatural and theological theorem in the process.

The story is loosely inspired by the real-life case of Annalise Mykell.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose was released on September the 9th, 2005. The film earned a profit, grossing 145.2 million at the worldwide box office,

against the budget of 19 million.

It received mixed reviews and critics, but won best horror film at the Saturn

Awards that year. Sadly, according to Derrickson, the director, the film was not as successful as he
