| 0:58.0 | Well, yeah. A quarter point doesn't sound like a whole lot, but that wasn't the case if you were an investor on Monday. |
| 1:04.0 | Stocks were down pretty significantly in the sell-off, and the reason is, generally speaking, when it comes to economics, when you're raising rates, you're making money more expensive to borrow. |
| 1:13.0 | And when money is more expensive to borrow, growth slows down. |
| 1:17.0 | The way the world is working now is that everybody is assuming and valuing companies and commodities, that China is going to be growing really aggressively, forcing up the price of oil, other commodities, food, and also for industrial stocks, and anybody selling something into China. |
| 1:30.0 | So if China's growth is going to slow as rates rise, everybody had to re-evaluate their expectations for these things, and that's the spark to sell-off. |
| 1:37.0 | So this means that the cadmium could become too expensive to put in the children's toys? |
| 1:40.0 | I mean, cadmium's never too expensive. |
| 1:43.0 | Isn't it more important in China that you know somebody, than you know about the rates, though? |
| 1:47.0 | I mean, this is like, are people more scared that this is a token small economic measure that the government in China is saying, hey, don't overheat the economy rather than the fallout from this particular actual move? |
| 2:01.0 | I don't think a quarter rate hike is not going to send the Chinese economy down, and it really caused the world to reassess what's happening, but China's government, a lot like the US government, is famous for the good old trial balloon. |
