The As As we've seen repeatedly, peace doesn't seem to last for long, especially as we are

pulled in opposite directions by the enticings of the Holy Spirit or the pulls and tugs of the natural man.

The peace that reined at the end of Mosiah 29 was interrupted by the coming of Nihor at the beginning of Alma Chapter 1.

And the piece that reigns at the end of Alma 1

is interrupted by the coming of Amlasi at the beginning of Alma Chapter 2. It's now the fifth year of the

reign of the judges. There is a contention among the people because Amlesai, a very

cunning man, yay a wise man as to the wisdom of the world. He being after the order of the man

that slew Gideon by the sword. You see an ameliski something of a combination it seems between

Sherram and Nihor. He's after the order of Nihor.

Popularity is what he's after, through vain promises, and at the same time he's

like Sharam in that he's a wise man as to the wisdom of the world.

Either way, they combine in his cunning, as he's trying to find a way to accomplish

ends using means that are not in harmony with the teachings of God.

In Amassai's case, verse 2, by his cunning, he wants to draw away people, and so he does. His goal ultimately is to be a king over the people.

He wants to reverse the changes that Mosiah had instituted.

And this was alarming to the people of the church in verse three.

It was alarming to anyone that didn't go after amlicized persuasion.

So inside or outside of the church, anyone that preferred democracy to monarchy,

this was a concern. It went against their law that had been established by the voice of the people.

But in verse 4, Amassai being a wicked man wanted to deprive them of their rights and privileges. In fact he wanted to

destroy the church once and for all. So the people put it to a vote. Again if we're

going to try things by the voice of the people as Mosiah encouraged, then let's do this.
