They were called the people of God and the Lord did pour out his spirit upon them and they were

blessed and prospered in the land. But if we permit ourselves to skip over the chapter

headings that so often stop the narrative in places that it shouldn't be stopped,

chapter 26 verse 1, there were many of the rising generation that doesn't

seem to fit in what we just saw at the end of Chapter 25. They didn't want to be part of this

community of Saints. They wanted to remain in Zarathimla,

will be part of society, but not part of this gathered community of Saints.

Now in part, this was not entirely their fault. Notice the could

nots did nots would nots in the next few verses. There were many of the

rising generation that could not understand the words of King Benjamin.

Now that wasn't their fault. They couldn't understand it. Why? Because they were little children at the time he spake unto his people.

Even in King Benjamin's address, he points out to the fact that you all know this stuff,

except your little children that are too young to understand.

Was that some foreshadowing?

Was that a gentle nudge to parents saying,

you better make sure the water gets to the end of the row?

Well, evidently, it didn't always get that far.

These little kids hadn't understood King Benjamin's words,

and worse yet, they still didn't understand them even when

they got old enough for comprehension. It reminds me of a verse at the beginning of

the book of judges where the pride cycle really starts to run rampant where it says that all that generation were gathered

unto their fathers, the generation that crossed the wilderness that got to the
