I'm Willa Paskin Slate's TV critic, and this week we're going to be spoiling the Steven Soderberg series TV show, phone app, something or other, Mosaic.

simply, Mosaic is an extremely chilly murder mystery that I think is really more of a technical exercise or a technical exploration rather than it is a satisfying bit of storytelling.

But I guess that means everything that I think is really interesting about it almost has nothing to do with its substance and a ton to do with its form.

But I don't want to just totally shortchange its substance.

So, Ingo, can you tell me a little bit about the form and then also the plot of Mosaic?

Pretty much everything you need to know, I feel like, isn't the title.

It's a very fractured Utah noir mystery.

And basically, the way that Steven Sutherberg envisioned it is that it would be a kind of take on choose your own adventure.

So Mosaic started as an app on iPhone and iPads.

And essentially, it was looking at this mystery, but choosing the parts of it that you wanted to see.

And so you sort of are presented with like choice A or choice B
