Hello and welcome to the Scriptures Are Real podcast. I'm your host, Kerry Nielstein, and this is the podcast where we

0:23.7

talk about elements of the scriptures that have become real for us so that we can better

0:29.4

understand them and allow them to be in our lives in a more powerful way. Today, we're going to have a shortcast where we talk about a

0:40.7

specific element of the covenant and the laws of Moses in that covenant. And some of these laws

0:47.2

that I'm going to talk about are covered in the Come Follow Me reading. And there's more that we

0:51.2

you're not reading. They're not having to read all of Leviticus. So I love Leviticus. And I think there's more symbolism we they're not reading than having to read all of leviticus so i love

0:54.7

lebiticus and i think there's more symbolism in there than most people realize um but we want to just

covenant and in the laws remember keeping the uh the laws or the commandments is our primary obligation of the covenant. First one of those is to love

1:13.6

God. We'll talk more about that when we get to Deuteronomy. The second is to love your neighbor,

1:17.6

which is actually in Leviticus and in one of the chapters we read from Leviticus for Come Follow

1:23.7

Me. That's where we get this commandment to love my neighbor. And so we're going to look at

1:29.9

that aspect of the covenant and the law of Moses today. It's based on an article I've written

1:35.5

in a book called Covenant of Compassion. This is a collection for the Sperry Symposium for this

1:41.1

last fall back in October of 2021.

1:45.6

And my article is called Covenantal Command, Love Thy Neighbor.

1:49.5

And the idea is that we just kind of go through and look at the different elements of the

1:54.7

law of Moses that they're commanded to keep as part of the covenant that are designed to take

1:59.4

care of each other, that are focused on this

2:01.9

love thy neighbor commandment in the law. And there's so much of this that is focused on taking

2:08.3

care of people who can't take care of themselves. And it's an important aspect of the covenant that we'll

2:13.2

talk about more next time this idea, chesed, or in a couple times when we do Deuteronomy,
