The mayor of Alton, Illinois is very serious about keeping his community safe and healthy.

And he wants everyone in his town to heed the governor's stay-at-home order to help stop the coronavirus from spreading.

The mayor said, quote,

these are very serious times. I am begging you to please stay at home, and parents, please keep

your kids at home. Doing so, doing so is vital to our health. And he also told the city's police

department to very strictly enforce the stay-at-home order, to issue citations, and even arrest people who are violating the order.

The mayor said, we will do whatever it takes to decrease the spread of this deadly virus.

The very next night, the Alton, Illinois Police Department cracked down on a big social gathering at a local bar.

And among the people they arrested was the mayor's wife Shannon.

You are kidding me.

The mayor, of course, apologized to the community.

He said that the police chief had informed him at 1 o'clock in the morning on Sunday

that officers

had stopped the social gathering and scooped up his bride at the prohibited social gathering.

Mayor Walker said, quote, I instructed our police chief to treat her as he would any citizen

violating a stay-at-home order and make sure she receives no special treatment. And then he went on to say that

his wife will face the same severe consequences for her, quote, ill-advised decision. He said,
