people who hate you. Mike Slater. Thanks for being here. We're talking about the beatitudes. A sermon on the

Mount. It's Matthew 5 last week talked about blessed are the poor in spirit. For theirs is the kingdom of

heaven. And this week it's blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

What does that mean to mourn?

So you're supposed to be poor in spirit.

That means to know the depth and depravity of your sin.

And then the only natural, logical step is to mourn it. And when you do that, that will bring you closer to God and you will be comforted. That's what it means. Martin Lloyd-Jones, he says, he must, you must become, we, I must become aware of these evil principles that are within me. He must ask himself, what is it in me that makes me behave like that? Why should I be irritable?

Why should I be bad tempered?

Why am I not able to control myself?

Why do I harbor that unkind, jealous, and envious thought?

What is it in me?

And he discovers this war in his members, and he hates it and mourns because of it.

As I totally understand, if you think this is all sad and depressing and too dark or something you don't want to do or confront i get it but that's the deal

that's christianity that's i mean it's the sermon on the mountain this is like fundamental

christian stuff here.

You look at James 4-8 says,

submit yourselves then to God.

Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.

Cleanse your hands, you sinners.

And purify your hearts, you double-minded.
