Summary

0:07.2	Tonight's episode is titled Mormon Easter Eggs. It's Radio Free Mormon, Episode 406. Today's date is July 5th, 2025.
0:16.7	What do I mean by Mormon Easter eggs? Well, I think we all have an idea what Easter eggs are.
0:22.1	And I don't mean the kind that you paint on real eggs and hide for Easter.
0:26.2	What I'm talking about is the kind of Easter egg that is in media, like movies, TV shows, comic books, etc.
0:34.6	An Easter egg is a message, image, or feature hidden in software, a video game, a film,
0:41.2	or another usually electronic medium. The term used in this manner was coined around 1979 by
0:48.1	Steve Wright, the then director of software development in the Atari Consumer Division. I did not

0:55.6	in the Atari video game adventure in reference to an Easter egg hunt. Well, my hypothesis for this show
1:04.1	is that not only do Marvel movies have lots of Easter eggs, Joseph Smith was also in the Easter egg business. And what he did was
1:13.8	he put Easter eggs in every one of his scriptural productions. What do I mean by scriptural productions?
1:19.0	I mean the book of Mormon. He produced it. He considered it scripture, at least he claimed it was,
1:25.2	scriptural production, the book of Abraham, and the Joseph
1:28.7	Smith translation, all of them loaded with Easter eggs. Now, Easter eggs in movies are meant to refer to
1:37.3	things outside the movie that those on the inside will get. Those who know, will know,
1:42.5	and if you don't know, you probably won't understand it.
1:45.8	But that's okay. This is for the in-crow. What Joseph Smith did with his Easter eggs was he put them
1:52.4	throughout his scriptural productions in order to tie his productions to the past. And specifically,
2:00.0	what he wanted to do was he wanted to take things that
2:03.9	had been lost from the scriptures, lost from the Bible over time, over 2,000 years, and restore them
2:11.2	as part of his scriptural productions. In fact, he comes out and says that is his modus operandi
