And it's day two in this week-long rebroadcast of our series, More than Money, The Cost of

Monopolis in America.

We're going to spend some time today hearing about the proposed merger between Microsoft

and Video Game Developer Activision Blizzard.

Now since we first recorded this conversation, the Federal Trade Commission, under the leadership

of Lena Khan, has sued to stop that merger.

And maybe that's not so surprising, given some of Lena Khan's public statements about

Monopolis.

Our original broadcast began with one such statement.

Monopolis are bad, not simply because they've threatened to, you know, lead to higher consumer

prices or even necessarily undermine productivity and growth, but Monopolis are bad because

they're bad for democracy.

Of course, that is subject to debate, which is why we're having this series this week.

But what isn't debatable?

There's been a veritable frenzy of corporate consolidation recently in this country.

A lot of it has been relatively hidden from view.

Yesterday, we talked about how just four companies control almost 90% of the meat-packing

market in the United States.

And it's not just an ag.

M&A fervor is everywhere worldwide.
