Russia doesn't publish stats on how many soldiers have died in the war on Ukraine, so journalists have come up with a number, about 70,000.

So the 70,000 people, all of them, we know by name and we verify each name. And that's likely a very conservative

estimate. I'm Carolyn Buehler and I'm Carol Hills. In Germany there's a

new political party standing in state elections.

It's not something we've seen a lot in Europe.

It kind of forms this what's now been called

left conservative.

Plus we already have swift dynamics.

Now we need a word for the economic impact of

baseball player Shohayo Tani. He is doing something that we haven't seen any

baseball player in a hundred years do and maybe even longer than that.

of Ukraine has been deadly for Ukrainians, but tens of thousands of Russians have also died

fighting in that war. The Russian government does not reveal those

casualty numbers. But the BBC and the independent Russian media organization

Media Zona have conducted a painstaking count of their own, and they've settled on a concrete, if conservative

number, 70,112.

Mika Golubowski is a journalist for Media Zona who worked on the count. We reached him today in

Vilnius, Lithuania. I asked Mika how they arrived at that number.
