Summary

An action-packed edition of Gyles's diaries, from 1974 and 75. Gyles masquerades - very convincingly - as the European Monopoly Champion, and wows the crowds in New York City. He tosses the world's smallest pancake live on television. Margaret Thatcher is elected Leader of the Conservative Party, and on the domestic front, Gyles and Michele become parents for the first time. 0:24.1	And I'm speaking to you from our studio, which is in London at Grovenhouse on Park Lane.
0:29.8	Because this Tuesday, I'm not alone. Well, I'm never alone.
0:33.1	But normally, we keep her under wraps. It's my producer, Harriet Jane.
0:38.1	But on a Tuesday, we pull away the wraps and we reveal her in all her glory.

0:52.5	I'm rather tired today, yes. I'm exhausted. The reason I'm exhausted is I've been doing are you exhausted? I'm rather tired today, yes.

1:02.6	I'm on tour again, more of that in the moment, but I've also been going to parties.
1:06.3	Because this is the spring publishing season.
1:13.2	And I've been to a number of parties, one of which I'll mention immediately. This is the centenary of the birth of Elizabeth II, born April 21st, 1926. We've been marking it here on
1:22.4	Rosebud, but also authors have been out there with books relevant to the life of Elizabeth II. I went to a
1:29.7	party to help launch the book by Robert Hardman, who's written an excellent biography of Elizabeth
1:35.1	the Second, and there were lots of people there, and I said a few words introducing Robert,
1:39.2	who I like and admire and know, and it's a hardback book. And also there was a friend of mine, Hugo Vickers,
1:46.4	who's also written a book about Elizabeth II. Again, an excellent book very different.
1:51.2	I, as you know myself, have written a book about the queen, but it's in paperback.
