Elliot, and you're right that it is dependent on your situation. But let's take a look at,

generally speaking, how spending changes throughout our lifetime. Thanks to the Consumer

Expenditure Survey from the U.S. Bureau of Statistics.

My favorite bureau. Of all the bureaus, it is your favorite. So for folks, and this is as of

2013, so for folks in the age group of 25 to 34, on average, they spend about $48,000 a year.
