| 0:00.0 | Hello there, you. Hope you doing all right today. People listen to this podcast for a few |
| 0:06.8 | different reasons, I've been told. Some of you listen, you say, because you want to learn about |
| 0:11.4 | other people, but a majority say they listen because they want to learn more about themselves. |
| 0:17.2 | Or they want some magic brain hack. Even in therapy people who sometimes say they want to learn some |
| 0:24.6 | sort of trick or something to help them with how they're feeling. And I say to them, what I say on here, |
| 0:31.5 | that our feelings are there for a reason. We shouldn't be trying to stop them because they end up just |
| 0:37.4 | pushing back harder. We need to |
| 0:40.1 | listen to what we're feeling, to work out what might be missing. But there's a vicious circle with our |
| 0:47.1 | mood that if we're feeling low for some reason, that sadness or whatever it is can actually |
| 0:54.0 | stop us from thinking straight. And we might need to do |
| 0:57.3 | something to try and lift our mood a little bit so that we can then look at it and see what was |
| 1:01.7 | going on. And that's what I want to talk a little bit about today, because we've all had those days |
| 1:08.0 | where everything just feels a bit off. You wake up feeling a bit flat. Maybe something |
| 1:13.3 | insignificant sets you off. You drop your toast, but aside down. Suddenly the whole day feels |
| 1:19.1 | crappy. Sometimes there's a reason and sometimes it's just the weather in our heads. And that's |
| 1:26.8 | how I like to think of it. That moods are like |
| 1:29.8 | emotional weather. Sometimes sunny, sometimes stormy, but always temporary. But we can help ourselves |
| 1:38.1 | to shift a bit. So first up, watch your body language. It's funny how we don't realize just how much our body affects our mind. |
| 1:48.0 | If you're slouched, frowning, looking at the floor, you're telling your brain that you feel low, |
| 1:54.0 | and your brain being helpful in the way that it often is, says, oh, sad are we? |
| 1:59.0 | I'll give you some chemicals to match that. So do the opposite. |
| 2:03.8 | Sit up straight, lift your chin. Let the muscles around your eyes soften. Maybe even smile a little. |
