Summary

On this episode of Jesus Listens: Stories of Prayer, we’re talking to two co-pastors whose lives intersected in a way that would have a forever kind of impact: Walter Hooker and Andy Kaup from Bellevue Christian Center in Bellevue, Nebraska. Walter worked at their church for many years, and knew Andy as a kid. When Andy became an adult, he decided to go into ministry. When a job for lead pastor came up, Walter and Andy were the top candidates. Andy was chosen for the position, and though Walter could have chosen to be resentful of the choice, he showed up fully to support Andy as lead pastor. Fast forward a few months later and Walter would find himself reaching a crossroads in his health after years long struggle. His prayers for healing were answered in a very unexpected, and personal way through his friend and co-pastor Andy, in this amazing testimony to the power of prayer and how God can bring good out of complicated situations.

0:19.7	incredible set of life-saving circumstances. Walter Hooker and Andy Cobb from Bellevue Christian
0:27.2	Center in Bellevue, Nebraska. Now after struggling with some health issues for a really long time and
0:34.1	praying for a resolution, Walter's pleas to God were answered by his own friend and co-pastor
0:41.8	Andy. I won't give it away here because I'm going to let them tell their own story,
0:47.0	but it's an amazing testimony to the power of prayer and how God can divinely orchestrate
0:53.2	circumstances in our lives for our good. So good to see you. Walter and Andy, welcome to the show.
1:02.7	Hey, good to see you. Thank you. So good to be here. Excited to spend some time together.
1:09.4	You bet you. Well, I shared in the introduction earlier that you guys worked together at the
1:16.4	Bellevue Christian Center there in Nebraska. But I want to hear about all the exciting things that
1:23.6	are happening there. But what I really want to know first is how you two got together.
1:29.8	We actually, as far as relationship goes and friendship goes, that goes back many years to my
1:36.8	family moving to Bellevue when I was five years old, beginning to come to the church. And so our
1:43.2	families kind of started building a friendship through that. And even as a teenager,
1:50.2	hook being one of the pastors on staff would often find me as a kind of snot nose while
1:57.6	junior student and kind of corner me and just ask, how are you doing with God? You know, and
2:05.7	question like that is amazingly intimidating to a junior higher. But immediately kind of
2:12.9	established himself as somebody who cared. And then a few years after that, we had a chance to go
2:19.5	on a mission strip together to Mexico. And most recently, I came on staff here in Bellevue
2:29.3	about five years ago. But then we are on year three of me transitioning in as lead pastor.
