Well hello and welcome to the tennis podcast coming to you from the Monte Carlo country club where we've just watched the final of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters

one rather emphatically in the end by Novak Djokovic over Thomas Burdic. I'm delighted to say that I'm not joined by my co-presenter David Law this week

He unfortunately wasn't able to come out to Monte Carlo but I am joined by the even better Robbie Coneyck who's an ex-professional tennis player

And has been commentating on all the matches this week for the World Feed. Robbie, thank you for joining me

There's only a pleasure. I can't match David for height but hopefully I can try and match him for some knowledge

You can definitely match him for everything except for height I think nobody nobody can match in there

Robbie let's talk about the final first because we've just watched it is freshen our minds

We just had a little chat before starting recording and I said I thought the final exceeded expectations about I think a lot of people are expecting a straight set

Maybe even an extremely one-sided straight set and that wasn't what we had

Djokovic, Burdic put up decent resistance out there didn't he?

He certainly did I think I think you make a good point as far as the straight set victory is concerned

I think a lot of us myself included thought that Burdic would struggle to get a set off Novak

Given a while he's played the last couple of days, last couple of weeks

But the conditions were horrible today Kath you know the wind was blowing a little bit it was cold

We had a little bit of rain that was coming throughout the course of the first set and into the start of the second set

Novak never really found his rhythm he was you know he was playing I would say below his base level of play

Which has probably been a eight eight and a half out of ten this week I thought he was playing at about a seven a six and a half at best

And he was making careless mistakes and I think once Burdic came back from the rain delay that we had in the fifth game of the second set

It seemed like he came back with a much more definitive game plan the boys and Hawke I was showing us

What his shot placement was like before the rain breaking afterwards and afterwards he was making concerted effort to go to the forehand a lot more Novak
