view of trade essentially has you know imports bad exports good and the number of

First, are we on the brink of a trade war? Samaa Keynes, our economics correspondent, is here to tell us what's going on.

Hello, well exciting times in the world of trade.

On March 1st it emerged that President Donald Trump wants to impose tariffs of 25% on all imports of steel into America

and tariffs of 10% and all aluminium imports.

So those are large numbers and they're very, very broad and so a few things about this.

The first is that he hasn't signed a document yet.

So we don't actually have the legal details of what he's going to do. It's all quite vague. The second thing is that obviously there's a lot of uncertainty about whether it will actually happen, linked to the fact that we don't have a legal document.

Here's Wilbur Ross, the Commerce Secretary,

who was questioned about whether it would actually happen.

Whatever his final decision is, is what will happen.

Meaning this isn't a done deal. I't say that I just said what he has said he has said if he

says something different it'll be something different I have no reason to think

he's gonna change What does this mean?

You just said, well, he may say this and he may say that.
