Hello and welcome to Money Reimagined. I'm Michael Casey.

Today I'm coming to you solo. Sheila is otherwise

occupied and we'll be back with us next week. For today's episode, I've decided to do a bit of a

rerun of a conversation I thoroughly enjoyed having with a journalist, author and activist Brett

Scott, the Nicon conference in Lisbon last month. Brett's book, Cloud Money, Cash, Cards, Crypto,

and The War for Our Wallets is a no-holds-barred look at the less than holy motives that drive

many actors in the so-called fintech space. It's fair to say that Brett is not exactly a crypto-fanatic.

That's not to say he's always a critic, though.

What he is is a voice for the human beings worldwide who are being swept up into this

movement to redesign money. In some respects, cloud money is an homage to the value of cash,

banknotes and coins, for the anonymity that it affords people, and for what Brett describes as the

kind of subversive capacity to reject surveillance and control by governments and bankers.
