And I always say you may as well have given that money to a raccoon.

I'm not financially literate at all.

Like at the company I work at now, I have stock options, and I don't know what that means,

or I have shares, because I don't know what that means.

Our lives are littered with pressing financial decisions. Can we afford that car, that apartment,

that meal? How do we save for retirement? How are we going to pay off that credit card debt?

The kind of questions that keep you up at night.

But the evidence is we're not very good at understanding the problems in the first place.

A Standard & Poor's Global Financial Literacy survey from a few years ago

showed that worldwide, just one in three adults, shown understanding of basic financial concepts.

No surprise then that across the US, as we speak,

a movement to teach financial literacy in public schools is gaining traction.

Beginning in 2020, in the state of Iowa, for example,

all high school students will have to complete a half-year personal finance course

as a graduation
