Welcome to the Black Girl Burnout podcast, Kelly here, and we are closing out our week with Asia Evans, the author of Feel Good Finance.

0:19.2

Grab a copy of this book. It is so good. We close out this week of

0:25.2

interviews with joy. Yes, it is possible to have joy in your finances. After all, we all need to feel

0:34.3

good. And so I ask her, how does she feel good about her finances and what are the things

0:39.2

that bring her joy? Let's jump back into the conversation.

0:49.3

This week has flown by, Asia, I'm so glad to have this conversation with you and this, this episodes that we're doing, because I really want, if there's one thing I want people to do is have more joy, that's the goal of the podcast, is to move from burnout, opting out of struggle and burnout and opting into joy. Because I do think that's our inheritance as black women. And one of the biggest

1:11.8

things that rob, yes, it is our inheritance. It is our birthright to be joyful as black women.

1:17.8

And it's like an honor to our ancestors and the people who didn't have access to as much joy to

1:22.6

make that the center of our lives is finding joy in a healthy way. And one of the biggest robbers of joy

1:28.8

is being broke. Truly. Truly. I tell people like, money cannot buy you like true happiness,

1:37.0

satisfaction and self. Like, you know, being a billionaire is never going to fill a hole in your

1:41.8

soul. But being broke will never make you happy.

1:45.3

Okay, starving ain't going to fill you up neither and make you happy. So being broke is the

1:50.0

enemy of joy and we're not here for that. We're here to feel good about all areas or lives,

1:55.2

including money. And so my kind of last questions for you around money is how do we feel good? Like what is the joy that

2:03.1

money can bring to you? How do we find that balance? And how do we bring more joy into our finances?

2:09.2

Yeah. I think just feeling good about your money and not being anxious about it, not letting

2:15.9

past financial traumas burden you from doing what you want to do

2:20.3

in the future, which may require some healing, right? Like, it's going to get a lot messier

2:25.0

before it starts to get better. We're really cleaning out the closet. We're diving in. We're

2:29.8

getting messy. And eventually we're going to put everything back where it's nice and organized.

2:33.4

But it is going to be hard at first. But like you said, the only way to get over it is to go through it.
