At 16, I decided that carrying a briefcase to school was a good idea and wouldn't look daft. I had a weird collection of hats and the ultimate in uncool, a ventriloquist dummy.

None of those choices were particularly wise, as I'm sure

you know, and yet 16 is an age at which young people are having to make big decisions about

their career and financial future. So here are some things I don't know about the options

facing 16-year-olds today. In England, for instance, you can leave school at 16,

but you can't just walk out and get a full-time job. You have to be in some sort of educational

training until you're 18. However, in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, you can leave school

at 16 without any restrictions. In fact, it's estimated that 14% of 16-year-olds actually leave full-time education,

so what are the other options available to young people

and what are the financial implications of it all?
