And today we're looking at first-time buyers, the challenges, opportunities, tips,

and pitfalls of taking the first steps into the housing market

at whatever age you are. New inflation figures showed a surprise jump to 10.4% and that doesn't

include housing costs but the early signs are that property price inflation in particular

seems to be slowing and there's even talk of the

prospects of a big fall in property prices. Halifax and nationwide estimate that property prices

are actually down by around 3 to 4 percent from their peak last August. And if we look abroad,

well, the fall is even bigger, down 20% in Stockholm, for example.

And I personally, well, I've been through lots of ups and downs in the property market

back in the 1980s, base rates, I remember well, at one point they reached 17%, which made property

ownership very scary indeed. And I remember there were some other large price fluctuations

in the whole of the housing market. Now, some see a fall in the price of property as an opportunity.

Others see it as something of a warning sign. Of course, no one really knows what's going to happen
