Mark 9: 14-29 - 'Help the little faith I have.'

Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraphs:

- 2610 (in 'Jesus teaches us how to pray') - Just as Jesus prays to the Father and gives thanks before receiving his gifts, so he teaches us filial boldness: "Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will." Such is the power of prayer and of faith that does not doubt: "all things are possible to him who believes." Jesus is as saddened by the "lack of faith" of his own neighbors and the "little faith" of his own disciples as he is struck with admiration at the great faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman.

- 162 (in 'Perseverance in faith') - Faith is an entirely free gift that God makes to man. We can lose this priceless gift, as St. Paul indicated to St. Timothy: "Wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have made shipwreck of their faith." To live, grow and persevere in the faith until the end we must nourish it with the word of God; we must beg the Lord to increase our faith; it must be "working through charity," abounding in hope, and rooted in the faith of the Church.

him, the whole crowd, was struck with amazement and ran to greet him. What are you arguing about

with them? he asked. A man answered him from the crowd. Master, I have brought my son to you.

There is a spirit of dumbness in him.

And when it takes hold of him, it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth,

1:03.6

and grinds his teeth and goes rigid.

And I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were unable to.

1:13.2

You faithless generation, he said to them in reply,

1:15.7

how much longer must I be with you?

How much longer must I put up with you?

They brought the boy to him, and as soon as the spirit saw Jesus,

1:28.6

it threw the boy into convulsions, and he fell to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the father, how long has this been

1:36.1

happening to him? From childhood, he replied, and it has often thrown him into the fire and into the

1:42.6

water in order to destroy him.

1:46.2

But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.

1:51.7

If you can, retorted Jesus, everything is possible for anyone who has faith.
