Good morning, America. A deal to end the government shutdown, a blast of winter, and we are live in Green Bay with Jason Kelsey.

We are looking forward to that. We're going to begin with the breaking news overnight. A deal to end the government shutdown.

Now in day 41, after a vote last night in the Senate, a bipartisan measure to reopen the government seems to be on track to getting passed by Congress.

Senior political correspondent Rachel Scott is tracking it all on Capitol Hill. Good morning, Rachel.

George, good morning to you. After 41 days, six weeks of gridlock, a bipartisan breakthrough does put Congress on path to ending the longest government shut down in American history. But in in the end it was Senate Democrats who backed away from what they've been demanding all along.

The motion upon reconsideration is agreed to.

The Senate reaching a deal to reopen the government

through the end of January eight Democrats breaking with the party to advance

the measure this was the only deal on the table in the end Senate Democrats

backing away from their key demand extending expiring Obamacare subsidies so

health insurance premiums don't rise for millions how do you explain, to your constituents why it was worth it to put up this fight

for so long when in the end you did not get your key demand?

Because it wasn't working. How long would it take to not get a response to say it isn't working?
