We're starting off our week like we have so many in the past, with reporting from Ukraine.

Yesterday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited with President Zelensky in an effort to show

that the United States is consistently supporting Ukraine.

Also yesterday, long awaited evacuations from MaruPaul are finally underway.

You may remember from weeks ago when the humanitarian corridor intended for evacuations was not

safe, as Russian forces continued to attack the evacuation routes.

As of the latest reporting, up to 100,000 people may still be blockaded in MaruPaul.

On the European democracy front, Germany says it is making progress toward weaning itself

off of Russian fossil fuels and expects to be fully independent of Russian imports by

late summer.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the word late is doing a lot of extra work in that statement.

Right now, the EU pays Russia $850 million per day for oil and natural gas.

And Germany is one of its top importers.

If only there had been numerous other energy sources invented over the past several decades

that could have provided energy for Europe.

Nothing like waiting until the very last second to figure it out.
