Our first story on this lovely Monday morning is unfortunately going to be about the rapid

rise of the coronavirus Delta variant.

Late last week, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy stated that misinformation on tech platforms

is a public health threat that has caused lives and prolonged the pandemic.

This advisory comes with a set of guidelines, but not requirements, on how to build a healthy

information environment, including recommendations for social media users, health workers,

researchers, and of course the platforms themselves.

And I'm sure the platforms will take kindly to those guidelines.

Meanwhile, LA County announced that they would be reinstating their mass mandate as

of midnight on Sunday, as cases are spiking yet again.

However, LA County Sheriff Alex Vilnaweva says that he won't enforce the new indoor

mask mandate, claiming that the department is underfunded and that the Sheriff's Department

will not be using their limited resources to enforce it, and instead they will ask for

involuntary compliance.

As if that has ever worked, but it's okay, the LA County Sheriff's Office needs its full

budget for the harassment of people of color.

Also a heads up, the first three positive COVID cases out of the Olympic Village have been

diagnosed.

Less than a week before the opening ceremony is at least two players and a video analyst
