| 0:14.4 | The biggest news on the abortion front over the course of the last year, of course, was |
| 0:18.9 | the DOBS decision handed down by the Supreme Court in June, reversing the Roe v. Wade decision. |
| 0:24.9 | Of course, with that decision's 50th anniversary coming up, that is really big news. |
| 0:30.2 | But this returned for the most part the question of abortion to the 50 states. |
| 0:34.5 | What reversing Roe did was to reverse that infamous 1973 Supreme Court decision that supposedly |
| 0:41.6 | found a right to an abortion within a so-called right to privacy, neither which, of course, |
| 0:48.1 | are articulated in the U.S. Constitution. |
| 0:50.4 | Roe was made very clear by the Court's majority in the DOBS decision last June. |
| 0:56.4 | But there are some big changes that have vast moral consequence, and we need to notice |
| 1:01.4 | what they are. |
| 1:02.4 | First of all, we need to note that what was not imaginable back in 1973 is the rise of |
| 1:08.8 | the abortion pill, that is, abortions by taking either a medication or medications by |
| 1:15.2 | pill, and now you need to know that more than half of all abortions in the United States |
| 1:20.8 | happen not in abortion clinic, but rather by means of taking a so-called abortion pill. |
| 1:28.0 | And that's where the politics gets really intensive, because even with the DOBS decision |
| 1:32.6 | on the horizon, much less after it was handed down in June, you had people on the pro-abortion |
| 1:38.5 | side who had been working for decades not only to make such a pill available, but to make |
| 1:44.2 | it more widely available. |
| 1:46.0 | And that's what makes big news in recent days. |
