I am going to assume you have access to the internet. And going along with that assumption,

I'm going to guess you've already seen the news about Governor Ron DeSantis dropping out of the race

to become the Republican presidential nominee for the 2024 election. But here's something really

interesting that you may not have known. In the past, the governor of Florida would have to resign from their office

if they chose to run for president because Florida had what's called a resign to run law,

meaning if you hold public office in the state of Florida and you choose to run for another

position, you have to resign from your current job first. And that's not uncommon. Arizona, Georgia,

Hawaii, and Texas also have similar laws. Other states have laws where if you win that other

election, you have to resign your current position. But either way, back in April of last year,

DeSantis got the state legislature in Florida to change that rule, allowing him to kick off his presidential

campaign without leaving his post as the state's governor. According to DeSantis, he suspended his

campaign yesterday because he couldn't ask his team to move on without a clear path to victory.
