Good afternoon from the KUOW Newsroom. This is Seattle Now. I'm Paige Browning, and here are

today's top stories. It's Monday, August 19th.

Starting at the Democratic National Convention, where members of Washington State's congressional delegation are playing some important roles this week.

Coming up on Wednesday, Representative Susan Delbenne has a high-profile speaking slot.

The Congresswoman from Medina chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

She's highlighting the party's chance to take back the U.S. House with close races in many states.

Sometimes you don't see it when you look at the presidential level,

but from the House level we're playing in races all across the country, sometimes in states where the presidential election won't be contested.

Delbeni points out Democrats need a net gain of just four seats to retake the chamber.

One of those contested races is in Southwest Washington's District 3. Representative

Marie Glusencamp Perez will face a rematch there with Republican Joe Kent. Glousencamp

Perez is skipping the convention this year in order to campaign in her district. We'll hear more

from the convention in a few minutes. To transit, Linwood Shoreline and Mount Lake Terrace are getting new light rail stations at the end of the month.

That'll introduce a new transportation option in cities where a lot of people drive cars.
