We're starting today with a blow to local public media. Seattle's Cascade PBS is laying off 17 people across its editorial,

marketing, and sponsorship departments. This guts the long-form online news from an award-winning

team of journalists. Cascade PBS CEO, Rob Dunlop, says the layoffs were needed in order

to keep the outlet viable. He says he came to the conclusion that Cascade PBS needed to strengthen video and streaming

components like its program, The Newsstream.

What we've made the decision to do is add more resources, essentially, to the news feed,

but it comes at the elimination of publishing long-form news to our website.
