Good afternoon. From the KUOW Newsroom, this is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning with a roundup of today's top stories. It's Monday, January 12th.

Starting with protests all weekend long. Hundreds of people rallied in Seattle and

neighboring towns on Saturday and Sunday against ice and the killing of Renee Good. A big crowd was at

Cal Anderson Park marking four days of protests in the city since Good was fatally shot by an ice agent in

Minneapolis. Up at the podium,

new mayor, Katie Wilson took the mic. Wilson called the escalation of ice enforcement

unacceptable and laid out how she plans to push back. First of all, we uphold our laws that

prohibit our local law enforcement from collaborating with ICE.

We provide legal aid resources and other support to our immigrant families.

And my pledge to you is that we will get creative about the legal and every other tool that we have to protect every person who makes our city their home.

Wilson criticized recent ICE activity in North Seattle involving masked agents with unmarked vans

who arrested three people last week. While the protests called for the end of ICE,

federal immigration officials have repeatedly defended the ICE officers involved

in goods shooting, calling it self-defense. In Portland, the two people shot last week by U.S. Border Patrol

now face criminal charges. That's according to court filings released today. Both have been released

from the hospital and into federal custody.
