Two shakeups in local politics today.

First, former Seattle City Councilmember Shama Salwant is running for Congress.

She's going to challenge Congressman Adam Smith for his seat representing Washington's 9th District.

Noel Gaska was at the campaign kickoff this morning.

Standing outside the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building in downtown Seattle, Sahuat told her supporters she's challenging Smith because of his response to the war in Gaza.

It's time, Sahuant said, for members of Congress, including Democrats, to stop capitulating

to a, quote, corporate and war-mongering agenda.

No politician who has supported this genocide deserves one more working-class vote.

That's right.

Every single one of them deserves to be thrown out of office. One more working class vote. That's right.

Every single one of them deserves to be thrown out of office, starting with Adam Smith.

Sawant says her congressional campaign against Smith will focus on building an anti-war movement,

fighting for Medicare for All and taxing the rich.
