Hey there. From the KUOW Newsroom, this is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning. Happy solar eclipse and new moon. Here are today's top stories. It's Monday, April 8th.

Cloudy weather didn't stop dozens of people from flocking to the University of Washington campus today, hoping to catch the solar eclipse.

One person particularly excited, Oliver Fraser, a professor of astronomy.

He was thrilled. So many people showed up.

He says in ancient times, eclipses were a lot more mysterious.

I completely understand why people would be absolutely frightened by an eclipse if they weren't

expecting it because we depend on the sun so much. You never want to see that just suddenly

disappear. Sadly for us in Western Washington, there wasn't much to see, but Fraser offers

the bright side.

It was an opportunity for people who are curious about our solar system.

I think it's just a good reminder that the world is full of surprising and wonderful things.

The next total eclipse in North America will be in 2044.

Boeing's in the news today making yet another apology involving one of its planes.

This weekend, the engine cover on a 737 jet fell off. It happened during takeoff out of Denver.

The cover hit the wing flap. Southwest Airlines was operating the plane and was able to land safely.

A Boeing statement reads,

We apologize for the inconvenience to travelers

and that maintenance teams are reviewing the aircraft.

In finance news today, the policy idea called Guaranteed Basic Income is gaining traction, mostly on the left.

It's the idea that regular cash payments can help alleviate poverty.

A 10-month pilot in the Seattle area suggests it could work.
